Stocks rebound on both bourses

After witnessing a downward trend in the last three sessions, stocks today rebounded in the Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges as investors remained active on sector-wise issues.

The benchmark index DSEX of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) gained 67.58 points to reach 5,333.42. Two other indices also ended higher with the DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, rose 23.77 points to finish at 1977.45 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 19.78 points to close at 1,195.29.

Among the trading stocks, 198 advanced, while 133 declined and 64 remained unchanged.

However, daily trade turnover increased to Tk 5,765.58 million on the country’s premier bourse which was Tk 5,596.66 million at the previous session of the week.

Bangladesh Shipping Corporation led the turnover chart as its shares traded at Tk29.98 crore, followed by Islami Bank, Orion Pharma and Unique Hotel.

Sonar Bangla Insurance topped the gainers table as its share price jumped by 10 percent, followed by Runner Auto and Shepherd Industries.

Monospool Paper worsened on the day as its share price dropped 11.60 percent, followed by Style Craft and Union Insurance.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also rebounded with the Selective Categories Index – CSCX rising 27.66 points to close at 9,030.45.

Of the issues traded, 88 declined, 73 advanced and 28 issues remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city’s bourse traded 10.13 million shares and mutual fund units with turnover value of Taka 397.96 million. (BSS)
