Price fall in large-cap pulls stocks down

The country’s both the bourses — Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) – today plunged due to mainly a price fall in large-cap securities.

The benchmark index DSEX settled 55.20 points down at 5,114.60. Two other indices of the DSE also ended lower. Of them, DSE 30, comprising blue chips, plunged 13.60 points to finish at 1,879.18 and DSE Shariah Index (DSES) lost 18.64 points to close at 1,144.01.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, decreased to Tk 3,060.13 million, which was Tk 3,219.94 million at the previous session of the week.

Out of 395 issues traded, 272 declined, 83 advanced and 40 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

GP topped the turnover chart, followed by PUBALIBANK, LOVELLO, NRBBANK and AGNISYSL.

RUNNERAUTO was the day’s top gainer, posting 9.72 per cent gain, while PRAGATILIF was the worst loser, losing 9.98 per cent.

Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended sharply lower with CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) losing 199.70 points to settle at 14,302.59 and the Selective Categories Index (CSCX) shedding 124.87 points to close at 8,705.69.
Of the issues traded, 130 declined, 39 advanced and 15 issues remained unchanged on the CSE trading floor.

The port city’s bourse traded 1.99 million shares and mutual fund units with the turnover value worth about Tk 41.59 million. (BSS)
