Migrant dies trying to cross Channel: French maritime authority

A migrant died while trying to cross the Channel from northern France to Britain, a seventh such death since mid July, the French maritime authority, Premar, announced on Sunday.

The dead person was found aboard an overcrowded boat after its passengers had issued a call for help, Premar said, pointing to a “new phenomenon of people dying at sea not by drowning (but) by illness or in a crush”. (BSS/AFP)
