Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is being added to the Gaibandha Modern Hospital for the critical patients of the district.
Official sources today said the construction work of 10- story building for 250-beded Gaibandha Modern Hospital has been progressing fast since December 2019.
The building is being built at the campus of Sadar Upazila Modern Hospital of the town here at the cost of TK 34 crore while the Public Works Department (PWD) is implementing the work.
Executive Engineer of the PWD SM Rafiqul Hasan said over 95 percent work has already been completed and the rest work would be finished soon.
Since the establishment of the modern hospital there was no ICU facility. For not having the ICU, the patients particularly the critical ones were sent to 77 kilometer away from Rangpur Medical College Hospital or 66 kilometer away Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College, Bogura to get the services of ICU.
During the time of sending patients to Rangpur and Bogura from Gaibandha, many of the critical and serious patients die on the way to the hospitals as a result, there is no limit to the suffering of the relatives of the victims.
Taking the matter into cognizance, lawmaker of Gaibandha-5 constituency (Saghata-Fulchhariupazila) Mahmud Hasan Ripon presented a proposal in the house of Jatiya Sangsha recently demanding setting up of ICU in the newly constructed hospital building considering the public interest.
Earlier, the lawmaker, also submitted a semi official (DO) letter to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare requesting of setting up of well equipped ICU in under constructed building of the hospital.
In response, the ministry asked the concerned to take necessary steps to set up ICU in the new building of the hospital. Accordingly, the setting up of ICU in the hospital building is underway.
The people of the district thanked the lawmaker for taking the initiative to set up ICU in the modern hospital in a bid to remove the untold sufferings of the patients and their close relatives. (BSS)
