Writ seeking direction on beef import filed

A writ petition was filed today with the High Court, pleading for its direction to import live cows and beef to make these affordable for the people.

Supreme Court lawyer Md Mahmudul Hasan filed the writ with the concerned wing of the High Court, making secretaries of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and the Ministry of Commerce, and the chairman of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), as respondents.

Mentioning different benefits of beef for the human body, the petitioner in his plea said the common people are not being able to enjoy it for continuous high price in the local market.

“The TCB has failed in observing its legal duty by not importing live cows and beef from abroad,” the petition added. (BSS)
