Stocks extend losing streak

Stocks today extended its losing streak as the risk-averse investors preferred to book profit on quick-gaining shares.

DSEX, the key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), closed the day with 84.14 points down and settled at 5,814.09 points. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, fell 22.51 points to finish at 2020.11 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) closed the day with 17.87 points down to close at 1268.38.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, decreased to Taka 4655.50 million on the premier bourse, which was Taka 4866.73 million at the previous session of the week.

Out of 396 issues traded, 319 closed lower, 41 remained higher and 36 others remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

ASIATICLAB became the most-traded stock, followed by FUWANGCER, GOLDENSON, CENTRALPHL and RENATA.

CENTRALPHL was the day’s top gainer, soaring 7.72 per cent while PLFSL was the worst loser, losing 10 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also fell sharply with the CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) losing 275.16 points to settle at  16,653.96 and its Selective Categories Index (CSCX) shedding 165.01 points to close at 10000.40.

Of the issues traded, 170 declined, 36 advanced and 12 issues remained unchanged.

The port-city bourse traded 53.81 lakh shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value of Taka 16.83 crore. (BSS)
